Music technology

Browser score reading, MIDI audition, and longer-horizon projects in notation software — built in the same studio that engraves and publishes the catalog.

Overview Live previews Tools in development

Music technology at X Music Studio covers the software and browser tools that sit beside commissioned engraving and Open Sheet Music publishing. Some pieces are already usable as studio previews in the browser; others (jianpu conversion, a Guqin jianzi typeface) remain in active design. Nothing on this line replaces a full notation editor — the aim is reliable import, clear reading, and honest playback for the files we already produce.

The live previews share one player package with the digital score product pages. When we improve layout or sound under /score-player/, both the catalog embeds and these technology pages update together. Use the navigation under Music technology for Overview (this page), Scrolling MusicXML score, MIDI file playback, and Play PDF.

Jianpu-to-staff conversion

Numbered notation (jianpu) is widely used in teaching and in Chinese vocal music. The tool in development reads and writes jianpu against staff notation, so a title can move between the two without being re-entered by hand.

It is a converter, not a general notation editor. Sibelius, MusicXML, and jianpu files are the intended paths. No public version yet.

Guqin jianzi typeface

Guqin music is written in reduced characters (jianzi). One glyph encodes string, hui position, and right-hand stroke. Manuscripts and scans are the usual source; there is no widely used text font for that script.

We are drawing a typeface so jianzi can be set as type. The font is not released. This is not a tablature editor, and it is not a library of pieces.

Three previews, one player package

What began as a studio sketch for teaching and proof listening is now a shared browser package: Scrolling MusicXML, Play MIDI, and Play PDF. Product pages and the technology hubs above use the same engines under /score-player/.

Score scanning and source cleanup still sit with this work: pages are read so they can be set, not retyped by hand. Teaching loops and graded practice remain on the roadmap.
